Columbus fair auto auction got its start in 1959 as a one-lane auction at the ohio state fairgrounds. william jacobs started columbus fair auto auction based on excellent customer service and fairness. he recognized that auctions offered a solution to automobile dealers' needs for a source and marketplace for used motor vehicles. the auction moved to obetz, oh in 1977; the location better served cfaa's needs and vision for the future. the 85 acre lot sits in the center of obetz and includes: 11 auction lanes, reconditioning center, 48-bay tech touch shop, mechanical repair center, on-site test track, and until recently, a full-service restaurant. in 2020 cfaa was acquired by xlerate group, which has auction operations in 11 states. this acquisition will propel cfaa in to the future by providing more opportunities for growth, including a comprehensive modernization of their current operation and evolution of their brand.
